Dawn Grace’s bio:

I live and work in the amazing city of Chicago, Illinois, where I was born and raised.

I’ve been tattooing professionally since 1998, after serving a formal 2-year apprenticeship with Cap Szumski at Timeless Tattoo in Atlanta, GA.

I moved to Atlanta in 1996 specifically to apprentice with Cap, who made sure I earned my way into the craft of tattooing with plenty of blood, sweat, and tears.

I returned to Chicago in 2004 to be nearer to my family. I began working at Tattoo Factory in the notorious Uptown neighborhood upon my return, and remained there until November of 2012.

With love and blessings from my Tattoo Factory family, I opened my own private tattoo studio in 2012 in the beautiful Old Irving Park neighborhood on the Northwest side.

My clients and I both thoroughly enjoyed the intimate private studio setting, but I missed being around other tattooers, so in October of 2017,  Brennan and I opened Bella Rose Tattoo. While Bella Rose is open to the public and our artists are available for walk-ins, I am appointment only. i’m typically booked a few weeks in advance

I love to do all styles of tattooing, and enjoy making the design flow with the natural lines of the body. If I think another tattooer would be better suited for what you want done, I'll be honest and refer you to the right person.

I love tattooing, and can generally draw whatever you want. I’m ridiculously anal-retentive, which is a blessing and a curse. I was trained by one of the best (and also most anal-retentive) tattooers in the business, and it's my responsibility to carry on our tradition of quality, consistency, and pride. I am a huge believer in continuing education, and attend classes & workshops as often as possible.

I’ve been an artist my whole life; I come from a very creative family of artists and musicians, and they have always encouraged me to create. I have wanted to be a tattooer since I was a little kid, drawing all over myself and my barbies, and have always had full support in making my goals a reality. I don't consider myself blessed or lucky: I've worked very hard to have my life, art, and business be a success.

I’m an armchair scholar;  I try to learn something new every day and expand the bubble I live in. Current obsessions include anything from the Victorian and Edwardian eras, art nouveau, ancient history, modern history, architecture, antiques, documentaries, movies, reading, and the golden age of piracy. Apparently I’m a gamer now.

I'm a total nerd; If you are concerned with having a "cool" tattoo artist do your work, I am not your gal. If you want someone who takes their craft as serious as a heart attack and strives to do their best work possible, you've found me!

Be aware that while my schedule isa little tight, but I will always accept new clients. You don't have to audition to get tattooed by me, I don't select clients and do only "my style". I was trained to be versatile, to offer all styles of tattooing, and to have a professional and friendly bedside manner. I do my best to make every person's tattoo a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Your comfort and happiness are very important to me. I guarantee all of my work.

I do my best to be compassionate and kind, and try to live by the golden rule. Doesn’t always work, but the point is to make the effort, right?
